Peter Jordan
BSc.Hons, M Clin Psych, MAPS
Specialist Clinical Psychologist,
CBT, EMDR and Mindfulness Practitioner

Who I am
I am a clinical psychologist, clinical supervisor, with specialist expertise in the assessment and management of post traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and psychological trauma. I have more than 25 years experience as a psychologist and have worked with a broad range of child and adult mental health problems in hospital, community based and private practice settings. In addition to psychotherapeutic work assisting individuals to acquire the skills to better manage and care for their own emotional needs, I also undertake assessments for medico-legal purposes in respect of accidents, injury and fitness for work.
I completed my clinical psychology training in Perth in the mid 1980’s and worked for a year at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children before moving to NSW for a two year period working in a community based adult psychiatric unit. I moved to the in the UK in 1988 and what was intended as a brief period of overseas work experience turned into a 24 year period of residence. During my stay in England I worked in a diverse range of clinical settings within the NHS and in corporate, public and private environments. Whilst the vast majority of my professional activity and experience has been in the broad sphere of adult mental health I have also had extensive involvement in the area of work based counselling and for a number of years provided a consultancy service to public and private organisations in respect to the management of anxiety, stress, psychological trauma and life coaching.

What I offer
I offer a discreet and confidential psychological assessment and treatment service to assist children, adults, couples or families who may be struggling with a particular dilemma or who find themselves in a period of emotional turmoil or distress. I mainly use a cognitive and cognitive behavioural orientation incorporating EMDR and mindfulness but when appropriate I may also utilise other therapeutic approaches where this provides a better match for a person’s specific individual need.

In all cases my aim is to use evidence based psychological expertise to provide individual planning of a brief or ongoing psychological support and treatment to assist people to better identify and understand their own emotional needs. I would see the goal of your therapy as being the process of enabling you to work through your current dilemma, crisis or anxiety and to acquire those relevant skills to be better able to manage those expected and unexpected problems of everyday life.
